Aswell’s Tutorial For Dubspot
[UPDATE: Parts 2 and 3 up now]
“In the first installment of this three-part video tutorial series exploring the creative production and performance possibilities of Native Instruments versatile groovebox Maschine, Justin Aswell of the innovative Charlotte, North Carolina-based hip hop group Mr. Invisible explains and demonstrates how to create a track from start to finish using only Maschine! Justin starts by loading and trimming drum breaks, in the process he offered some basic sampling and slicing tips and techniques. He then proceeds to record a bassline using a MIDI keyboard (although, you can “play” a bassline using the pads on Maschine.) Furthermore, Justin shows more production and sound-shaping tools Maschine offers, including some advance sampling capability and effects processing.” From Dubspot

Mr. Invisible is proud to have partnered with Native Instruments for the launch of Maschine. in the course of a week, the guys composed 2 new live routines using Maschine , then Native Instruments shot videos for them both in LA. The week the videos were released they were the #1 most viewed music videos on youtube in several countries around the world.
See the group video here. See Aswell’s solo video here.
Mr. Invisible at Bass Church 7
Mr. Invisible was excited to perform at the 7th installment of Mindelixir’s Bass Church series. Although Bass Church is primarily an event showcasing dubstep and electronic music, the audience of around 2,000 showed they can definitely get down with some hiphop as well. Check the video footage & see for yourself.
Marley is 2010 MMA Battle Champion
After competing & winning the Asheville, NC edition of the Mix Master Arts DJ Battle, Marley competed in the final tournament of all regional winners & came away victorious.
After being named Champion, Marley said “It is an honor to have competed with the most respected DJs in the state. The skill level represented here is immense & it took much preparation to beat these fools. Now, will someone help me get this big ass trophy in my car?”
The battle was a 10 minute mix-off judged by a team of 5. Marley has recorded his winning routine and will soon post it to Mr. Invisible’s youtube channel. Stay tuned.
Diggin’ and Interview w/ Cut Chemist
Mr. Invisible had the pleasure of kicking it with Cut Chemist while he was in town for a show with Red Bull. We were trying to figure out a place to do the interview and had the great idea of going to the Wax Museum.
We asked questions about gear, diggin, touring and collaborating with DJ Shadow. Obviously, we did more than just interview him! We had to get a little diggin’ in mix (it is a record store)…
Check out the pictures on Flickr and the video on YouTube or scroll down and watch right here!! WORD.
Marley Wins Battle In Asheville
Marley competed in the Exposure #26: MMA DJ Battle in Asheville. It was held at Scandals on July 29th and had a healthy turn out. Marley went up against several DJs and was… Victorious!
It wasn’t your normal DMC style battle. It was a 10 minutes mix routine. Pretty sweet. I grabbed the rules for the battle off the facebook event page and put them below. Seems like a fresh set up.
This was third installment of the battle series. Apparently, they’re doing more and then putting the winners against each other in a big tournament of champions. Marley will obviously be representing there. We’ll keep you posted when it’s going down so you come out and support.
If ya see him, congratulate him! We’re stoked.
Rules for the Battle:
* The 10 minute mixoff is a free for all, you can play whatever you want. Whoever rocks the crowd the best while showcasing the most skill on the decks is who we are looking for to win
* The event will be judged by a 4-5 judge panel (NO CROWD JUDGING!) which will be compiled of some big name DJs from across NC. They will be judging via a points system which will be broken down into several categories and then tallying that for an overall score to determine the winner of each competition.
* The competition setup will be: 2 Technics 1200s + 1 Rane TTM-56 mixer (and serato attached for the mixoff of course)
Mr. I Video Shoot In LA
What up party people,
So we recently got back from a hella sick trip to L.A. thanks to Native Instruments. NI flew us out to shoot some videos using their equipment (Maschine, Traktor and the Kontrol X1) at Freak City. Thanks to good timing we got a chance to play the legendary Low End Theory with Daddy Kev, Gaslamp Killer and D-Styles. Marley has blessed us all with an excellent take on the journey. Epic.
Also, check out the interview and performance we did at Huskey Radio below.

YouTube Video Shoot
Last night we successfully recorded 7 new videos for YouTube. The first video we recorded was one of Marley glitching “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” by Jay-Z. Its TOO sick. After that, Marley and Me (haha) recorded the “Break It Down” routine. We’ve been doing that for about a year now so that was pretty easy. I think we got it in the first couple of takes. The last video we did was of the full routine of “Bring it On” with all three of us. We were a little worried about how Ill’s mic was gonna come through, but I think it’ll turn out pretty dope.
After we got done with “Bring It On”, I recorded 4 videos that I commissioned for a high school just out of Chicago. The main theme of the video’s is Brooklyn. I used songs from Biggie, Jay-Z and the Crooklyn Dodgers. Keep in mind I made these for high schoolers so they’re not super hard. Non the less, it’s still good music. I might even post the tutorials I did for the kids on YouTube also. We’ll see.
Keep your eyes peeled to the YouTube channel!
